Critical Mass Ski Trip 1997

President's Day (and Valentine's Day) weekend

Friday - Monday, February 14 - 17

For the past 3 years, the ski trip has been an excellent vacation. There's no schedule, no mandatory activities (some people even go and don't ski!), and plenty of fun to be had. The group has always been fairly evenly split between cross-country and downhill skiers, and skiing expeditions are made all day Saturday and all day Sunday. Downhill skiers enjoy Wisp, and cross-country skiers enjoy a selection of local state parks. Hot tubs, games, discussion, and music are enjoyed during the evenings. Monday finishes the holiday weekend with a hike along a state park stream, which finishes at a beautiful partially frozen waterfall.
The 1997 Critical Mass ski trip is moving to new houses! We will no longer be in Sky Valley, but will be in newer and nicer houses which are closer to the skiing areas. Both houses have hot tubs! Check out their pages on the realtor's web page:

The cost is $75 if postmarked by January 15, and $85 after. The money paid to Critical Mass goes to pay for the houses. If there is still money left over, it is given out as partial reimbursement for food expenses.

Everyone is expected to provide, in conjunction with one or two other people, one meal for their entire house. (Dinner duty is usually snatched early by folks wanting to show off their culinary skills.) Everyone is also expected to clean up after a meal. Meal preparation and cleanup preference can be indicated on the registration form, and people-to-meal allocations are made before the trip.

Ski equipment can be rented at the Lake. Cross-country equipment can be rented for about $20 for the weekend. Downhill equipment can be rented for $?? for the weekend.

There is at least 1 web page showing more information about Deep Creek Lake,
and one showing a map of the area (we'll be in area J).

Note -- the old, rusty, rickety bridge that crosses the "waist" of Deep Creek Lake is being replaced. This means there will be no bridge in that location while we're there. This may be a little bit of an inconvenience, but they're knocking $50 off the cost of each house and I think we'll be able to handle it.

If you want more information or want to reserve a space, email Peter Dahlstrom. Registration forms will be included in the next Critical Mass newsletter, which should be available in late January. We're collecting advance reservations to pay for the three houses.
